Biography and publications in German and Russian
 

Borne 1959 in the province Dshambul in Kazakhstan. From 1976 to 1981 I studied economy in Novosibirsk and worked then as a lecturer at the Institute of Technology for light and food industry in the city of Dshambul. In the years of 1983 to 1987 I was a researcher at the Institute of Economics and Industrial Engineering of Siberian Branch of the Academy of Sciences of the USSR (current Russian Academy of Sciences) in Novosibirsk. Here I made first studies about the economic and cultural history of the Germans in the Russian Empire and in the USSR. Until the departure to Germany in August 1991 I continued my pedagogic and scientific activity at the Institute of Technology in Dshambul. From July 1988, admission to the Institute of History, Archaeology and Ethnography of Kazakhstan’s Academy of Sciences in Alma-Ata as a extraordinary candidate for the attainment of a doctor’s degree. The dissertation “The social-economic development of the German villages in Kazakhstan (pre-revolutionary period)” was submitted and defended in the Institute of History, Archeology and Ethnography and confirmed by the Ministry for Science, Research and Arts Baden-Wuerttemberg on 30th September 1993. 1992 to 1993 I was employed in The Department Generallandesarchiv Karlsruhe, first as a trainee and then as an archive employee. This occupation was followed by two years of scientific activity at the Institute for Foreign Cultural Relations (ifa – Institut fuer Auslandsbeziehungen) in Stuttgart. After that I participated 1999-2002 within the scope of the “Forschungsstelle fuer Geschichte und Kultur der Deutschen in Russland” [Research group for History and Culture of the Germans in Russia] at the Department of Eastern European History of the University of Heidelberg on the project “’Trudarmiya’. The Russian Germans in the Soviet forced work army and in the GULag 1941-1946”, that was supported by the Volkswagen Foundation. At the moment I work as a freelance at the “Forschungsstelle…” and as a part-time lecturer at the Department of Eastern European History. Married, two daughters.
